Preparing the next generation for the AI age

Your Science Degree
Is Your AI Superpower

We invest in non-CS STEM graduates making the leap into AI & Machine Learning. Stipend. Mentorship. Structure. No tuition. This isn’t a bootcamp—it’s angel investing for human capital.

The Gap Nobody’s Filling

The AI industry has a talent bottleneck, but it’s not where most people think. There is no shortage of computer science graduates who can train a model on MNIST. The shortage is in people who understand real-world domains—materials science, biology, physics, chemistry, engineering—and can apply machine learning to problems that actually matter.

How It Works

Every fellow starts at Tier 1. Progression is earned. Think of it like funding rounds: demonstrate traction, unlock the next stage.

Tier 1

Ignition

3 months·$200/mo
$600total investment

Entry tier. All fellows start here. Prove your commitment, build foundations, and demonstrate traction.

You'll learn

Python for data scienceSQL & data manipulationMathematics refresh (linear algebra, calculus, probability)Git & version controlIntroduction to scikit-learn & pandas

First ML project published to GitHub with a clear README.

Tier 2

Orbit

6 months·$200/mo
$1,200total investment

Extended on merit after Ignition review. Deepen your skills, tackle real-world problems, build your professional identity.

You'll learn

Core machine learning algorithmsDeep learning with PyTorchDomain-specific applications (e.g., materials informatics, bioinformatics)Model evaluation & experiment designTechnical blog writing

Deep learning project + domain bridge project completed and published.

Tier 3

Escape Velocity

12 months·$200/mo
$2,400total investment

Full programme. You’re building serious projects, publishing work, and preparing for the job market.

You'll learn

Production ML & MLOpsCloud deployment (AWS/GCP)Advanced architectures (transformers, GNNs)Portfolio polish (5–6 projects)Interview preparation & mock interviews

Capstone shipped, 5–6 portfolio projects, first job applications sent.

Who We’re Looking For

You don’t need to be exceptional. You need to be serious.

01

STEM Background

Non-CS STEM degree: physics, chemistry, biology, materials engineering, mathematics, or equivalent. Recent graduates preferred (0–3 years post-graduation).

02

Mathematical Comfort

Comfortable with linear algebra, calculus, and statistics at the undergraduate level. Doesn’t need to be exceptional—needs to not be afraid of it.

03

Genuine Motivation

Able to articulate why you want to transition into AI/ML, even informally. We’re looking for signal, not polish.

04

Full-Time Commitment

Able to commit 50 hours per week. This is a full-time undertaking, equivalent to a university course load. Not compatible with a full-time job.

Who this is NOT for

People looking for passive income, people collecting certificates, or people who aren’t willing to put in full-time effort. This programme is generous with support but demanding with expectations.

Why This, Not That

No existing programme combines all five of our properties.

01

Non-CS STEM focus — targeting physicists, chemists, biologists, engineers, mathematicians

02

Micro-stipend model — $200/month signals seriousness without requiring philanthropic-scale capital

03

Tiered commitment — 3 → 6 → 12 months based on performance. No other programme does this.

04

Global from day one — not locked to a country, university, or corporate partner

05

Venture framing — fellows are selected, not enrolled. The psychology is investment, not charity.

How we compare

Google AI Residency
PhD studentsFull salary12 months

PhD-only. Corporate. Not accessible to recent STEM grads.

Meta/Amazon PhD Fellowship
PhD students$42k/yr + tuition2 years

PhD-only. University-partnered. Extremely competitive.

Encode: AI for Science
AI researchers£115k + compute12 months

Targets experienced AI talent, not career transitions.

Wadhwani AI Fellowship
Engineers (India)Paid1–2 years

India-only. Social good focus.

ML learnersFree (no pay)3 months

No stipend. No financial commitment either direction.

Bootcamps (Springboard, etc.)
Career switchersStudent pays $8–16k6 months

Opposite model: fellows pay. No selectivity. Volume-based.

Gradient Fellows
Non-CS STEM grads$200/month3–12 months

Only programme combining: micro-stipend + non-CS STEM focus + tiered commitment + global reach + venture framing.

What We Expect

This is a two-way investment. The programme gives a lot; it asks a lot.

01

50 hours/week

Of focused study and project work. This is their job for the duration of the fellowship.

02

Bi-weekly check-ins

With their mentor. Camera on. Prepared. Non-negotiable.

03

Weekly async updates

“This week I learned X, built Y, got stuck on Z.” The habit of communicating progress is itself a professional skill.

04

Monthly deliverables

Each month has a defined output: code, a project, a write-up. Stipend is tied to delivery.

05

Public work

Everything goes on GitHub. The portfolio is the product. If it’s not on GitHub, it didn’t happen.

06

Honesty

If you’re lost, say so. If life gets in the way, say so. The worst outcome isn’t struggling—it’s struggling silently.
